The test detects the presence of antibodies produced by our immune system against the Covid-19 virus. The presence of antibodies indicates that the body has been exposed to the virus and has started producing antibodies to fight against it. ● What is Antibody test useful for? Antibody testing is central to help identify people who have been infected by the virus, especially those who may have been infected but did not display symptoms. Additionally, the test can support priority screening of high risk groups, such as healthcare workers, food supply workers who might already have developed a certain level of immunity and can continue serving and/or return to work. Once we understand more about the immunity of COVID-19, it could also help society return faster to normality. ● Can this test be used to diagnose Covid-19 infection? No. This test is not intended to be a diagnostic test. It identifies if a person has contracted Covid-19 in the past and has developed Antibodies against it. ●How is the test performed? A single blood sample in plain bulb is required for the test. We perform the test by ECLIA method (Gold Standard) on Cobas E-411 analyzer which has a higher sensitivity than ELISA. ● When can this test be done? The test is best performed atleast 2 weeks after the onset of symptoms. If the testing is done too early in the course of infection, the body may not have produced enough antibodies yet to be detectable by the test.
